This weekend I had a great day changing up the look of my guest Penny.
A few weeks ago Penny had expressed that she really wanted more volume and longer hair.
It used to be that I would start sharing timelines of how long it would take to grow and what products could create more volume in the hair.
Not anymore…. I just asked, “when would you like to do this?”
With the Great Lengths Extension System we were able to achieve longer, fuller hair and a beautiful sun-kissed highlighted look in just one day!
See our transformation happen…….

Have you ever looked through a magazine and saw a longer hairstyle you absolutely loved, but knew your hair could never look that way? Maybe your hair is either too fine, or not strong enough to get that long?
Well, now you can achieve the most luxurious hair and not have to wait for it to grow! How, you ask? The latest and greatest advance in hair lengthening!
My valued guest Jennifer decided to go for it, so we had a full consultation to discuss her desired look.
We chose the appropriate length and colour and then set the plan in motion. A week later Jennifer would finally get the hair she had always wanted and it would only take a day.
See her transformation….

Typically when one uses the term “extensions,” we usually associate this term as a means only to lengthen hair.
This is, of course true, but there are so many other options and possibilities that can be achieved.
As a hairstylist, I am always looking for new ways to update and enhance my clients’ images. Long-gone are the days that we have to wait and wait for your hair to grow out to achieve a specific, longer look!
Let’s be realistic; most of us have tried just about everything possible to change-up our hairstyles through the years. Before I was in the industry, I permed, coloured, high-lighted and changed my haircuts almost weekly! Now my main focus is maintaining and preserving my naturally healthy, shiny hair. Although I still like to experiment with my colour and shape, I now know the best options available for creating amazing looks, but keeping hair healthy, strong and beautiful.
Over the last year, I have been achieving some beautiful new looks for my guests, my friends and myself using the “Great Lengths Extensions System”.
Great Lengths can be used to achieve many styles;
To give instant volume, create a new haircut shape using long or short hair, cover scars or alopecia spots and add chemical free highlights or lowlights.
A splash of punky-colours add instant character and individuality in a fun and colorful way!
Recently, one of my guests came to me with a hair dilemma. She loved her current darker shade of hair colour, but wanted something a little more “sun-kissed” without going through the process of lifting and re-colouring her hair.
I suggested The Great Lengths System, (www.greatlengths.com) because this was a perfect solution for her to achieve a fresh, new look and be transformed with zero risk or commitment!

Pre-Extensions

Natural Breakage Around Face

Individual Strand Application

Final Look 1

Final Look 2
The Great Lengths strands will stay attached up to 6 months, but can be removed at any point with no damage to the natural hair.
This means all my guests can be more adventurous than ever with their styles, and have “the freedom to choose” different colours, hair-lengths and eye-catching styles whenever they desire!
Until next time! – Lisa

As a 46 year old Salon Owner, wife and mother of a 2.5 year old, I am always striving to look and feel great. I almost feel it is my obligation to look the part, but where do I look for an updated image? I am lucky enough to have a team of amazing make-up artists and stylists that are looking out for my best interest. About every 6 months I get a gentle (or not so gentle) nudge that it is time for an image update.
I have also found my inspiration from an outside influence. ~ Where, you ask? An un-likely source J-Lo. Yes, Jennifer Lopez. I admit it, I watch American Idol every week. Two reasons: one, I do like to watch the upcoming musical talent. Two, I LOVE to see what Jennifer will be wearing and even better, how her hair and make up will be styled. Now I know what you must be thinking, “Who can emulate J-Lo”? Well, as I said earlier, I use her for inspiration. I love to look at her make up colors and application and then modify it for this 46 year old, working mom, trying to look current
Ever since this “season” started, I have been committed to changing my hair and make up daily. Even if the changes are small. I have been adding different colors in different places, weather I apply a smoky eye, soft cheeks and a glossy lip, or a light neutral eye, heavier cheeks and dark lips, The compliments have been rolling in and I love it. Lets face it, no one can look like J-Lo, not many can afford a stylist to make sure they are “flawless”. But what we can do is, look, observe and ask ourselves…How can I take what she has done and use it for me, my style and my age? There are a few things I will NOT leave the house with out:
We all start ‘bare’ faced…look below for some beginning ideas that could get you going.
I always start with a great moisturizer…I happen to Love Love Love the Aveda Tourmaline Cream. After that absorbs I apply…
Moisture +Tint (spf 15) this gives a translucent coverage, smooths the skin while moisturizing.
Concealer~on the eyelid and below the eye is like an eraser (to all things unwanted) this is a must!
Brows~ A powder in a shade close to your hair color is perfect to brush a little in, fill in the gaps as your brows are a window to your eyes.
Eyes~us ‘peeps’ over 40, probably a good idea to stay away from the frost or sparkle (from the mouths of my ’soft nudge’ consultants) Keep the majority of color on your lids, with a light neutral for your brow bone.
Cheeks~mellow, but a small ‘punch’ of color makes you look alive and fresh
Lips~here is the rule for your kisser, If your eyes are dark, lips should be light with a nice gloss. If your eyes are light, put some dark color on those lips, head held high and don’t look back!
Stay tuned for some more “over 40″ make up tips. As I play, I will share….
Have fun with your image and step out of the box, you’ll feel great.
xo

Another successful trip to NYFW (fashion week) I’ll share the highlights & keep it short & sweet…………
What’s hot this season? Read on…
The clothing have a beautiful classic look with strong linear edges. It seemed most designers were inspired by the minimal. Beautifully hand crafted materials & soft tones of blue, red & gray were the hit this season.
The hair was classic. Ponytails, lopped ballerina buns & romantic curls all polished to perfection with the help of Aveda’s Smooth Infusion Glossing Straightener & the hold of the Control Force hairspray.
The Make-Up was fresh & light with deep tones of peach for the cheeks. The lips were glossy with a hint of pink and for the eyes were a light shadow to give a ‘bright eyed’ look.
Stay tuned for your access to the next shows & fashion trends, coming fall of 2011

Karla

Hola,
I just got back from one of my favorite places, NYC! I am happy to leave the heat & humidity, but it was all worth it, as my journey was the start of a new adventure.
What the “H” am I talking about you ask? Well I was in Hot ass, Humid ass, Manhattan to train for the ‘2010 Fall Fashion’ Week!!!!!
I can hardly hold back my excitement. I wish I had a lot of cool stuff to share with you, but the truth is what I learned would probably not appeal to you, LOL. It might even appear ugly to most people. Let’s not forget that most fashion & hair trends always start that way.
I had the opportunity to learn from Jon Reyman, an amazing stylist & veteran to Fashion week. He will be heading our team for this year’s back stage madness.
All I have to say is Holy Hairspray. Thank god for AVEDA’s new Control Force, with firm hold. This year’s Fall shows will be reaching new heights in the hair department. At least now when your heels aren’t doing the trick for the height you want, your hair can take over.
Stayed tuned, I will be reporting back on the whole experience immediately after I come down from the high fashion week will surely leave me with.
BESOS,
Karla

We are so fortunate to have been asked to do the hair and make up for the 37th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards. We got the call 10 days before the event and were asked if we could pull together a team of 10 for this event. I said ” I will try” with such short notice, I gathered my Creative Team together, ran it by them and prayed for a ~yes~…Not only did I get a ‘yes’, I got a ‘hell yeah’! I have the most amazing team in the industry.
They were all so excited to embark on this journey together. We booked our flights to Vegas, leaving at 8:30 a.m. and to return at 11:00 p.m. O.K. game on! We land in Vegas and get picked up in style by a huge Limo…pull up to the Hilton to see the red carpet being rolled out. (not for us
but one can dream~ We went from our pre-production meeting, to the Hair and Make up rooms, then off to stage right and stage left. There were stars swarming the place. It was very exciting to see some old timers such as Tony Orlando (what a sweetie), Chubby Checker (he serenaded us in our make up room, so cool) and the Spinners.
This Emmy Award Program was also a tribute to Dick Clark. So the people that were on American Bandstand early on, performed this particular evening. There were satellite appearances by Cher, Simon Cowell, Garth Brooks and Barry Manilow to name a few. Marie Osmond, Susan Lucci, Regis Philbin, Ryan Seacrest, David Copperfield were a few of the stars that touched the evening (and we touched them
…oh, don’t let me forget the Blue Men Group.
It was a great time had by all and we look forward to doing it again and sharing the evening with you…please visit our facebook fan page to get a glimpse of all the photos and videos.

Photo Shoot preparations!
The photo shoot is just 2 weeks away and the preparations are all coming together!
I am proud to say the team and I have completed a collection of cuts and colour that we can’t wait to share!
Our journey started with inspiration boards at the beginning of this year, followed by many hours of cutting, colouring and styling out mannequin heads…..when we were finally happy with our looks, the make up team were
on-board to start their process.
We have some gorgeous models and an amazing photographer “Gary Lions” that will make our vision real!
Gordana Gelhausen the fashion designer from Project Runway and owner of Goga by Gordana has been generous enough to allow us to use her designs to enhance our collection.
So we are finally coming to the end of the long list I created last year!
Over the next 2 weeks my team and I will be finishing up the last minute details and practising our style outs to make this shoot as smooth as possible!
Stay tuned for sneeky peaks and behind the scene pictures!!!
Thank you to Keri Davis owner and mentor for continued support and encouragement throughout this process……
LETS DO SOME HAIR!!!
Lisa Harris
Creative Director.
